Climb for Leaders is a series of leadership challenges aimed at high school students, faculty, and alumni that involve:
- a tough physical challenge (e.g. climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, one of the Seven Peaks);
- fund-raising to support educational projects in the developing world;
- community service in the developing world.
The combination of writing a thoughtful essay, raising significant awareness and funds, undertaking a rigorous training program, a tough physical challenge, community service, and sharing one's learning at the end of the trip results in exceptional leadership development. Many students have described the expeditions as a life changing event.
The climbs are also intended to help develop leaders in the developing world, where access to good education is often the only way out of deep-rooted poverty.
The goal is, by 2010, to raise $1 million annually in support of development initiatives, through climbs on three continents: Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), South America (Ecuador and Peru), and Asia (Nepal and Tibet).
